Ride Saturday, June 12

I hope you’re surviving the extended heat wave, and riding when it’s safe to do so. A cool front that’s coming through Friday is supposed to help us by lowering the humidity and the morning temperatures for a while.

Saturday’s 56-mile ride will leave Rosemount at 08:00 and go to Edina via the I-35W bridge. This is a new version of our Edina route that I created, because the Minnesota Valley State Trail under the Highway 169 bridge is still closed. During the ride, it should be 69 to 80 degrees and sunny with a NW wind from 4 to 8 mph.

Ride Memorial Day, May 31

We’re hosting a special Memorial Day ride Monday. This ride will start at Hyland Lake Park Preserve (10145 E Bush Lake Rd, Bloomington), not Rosemount, and head west to Waconia and back. This 60-mile ride will start at 08:00, and we should be back at the park before Noon. We’ll stop for a short break at a coffee shop in Waconia (there are several in the same area). There are a couple of places where you could shortcut to shorten the route, if needed. Let me know before the ride if you need directions.

We’ve stopped at Hyland Lake many times in the last year for a mid-ride break, so many of you have seen the park. We’ll meet up at 08:00 at Sunnyside Picnic Area, which is south of the Visitor Center. Please do not park immediately west of the Visitor Center.

Ride Saturday, May 29

Let’s do another pastry run to Cannon Falls Saturday. A couple of weeks ago, we rode there clockwise, so we’re going to go counterclockwise this time. Anyone wanting to do more miles can proceed to Welch before returning to Rosemount. The route to Cannon Falls and back is 56 miles, and the longer route to Welch is 83 miles and it doubles the elevation gain. The weather should be cool (48 to 61 degrees) with light south winds early and increasing to 10 mph around Noon.

Ride Saturday, May 22

This week’s ride will be to Brickoven Bakery in Northfield and it will start in Rosemount at 08:00. The clockwise route is 53-miles long. During the ride, it should be partly cloudy with temps from about 73 to 81 degrees, so a summer kit is all you’ll need, and the SSW wind will be blowing at 10 to 13 mph.

You’ll want to rotate clockwise on Clayton Ave, so everyone can share in the work against the wind. There isn’t a wide shoulder on Hwy 50 or CR 47, so it’s hard for the whole group to rotate and stay safe. The head winds along CR 47 should help keep everyone together there, but those out front will need to make sure you’re not dropping someone off the back. If your legs are good, go to the front of the group and rotate with the other strong riders, but watch for traffic before dropping back. And, if you’re not feeling strong before you get to Hampton, try to get into the middle of the group where there should be less yo-yoing and a good draft. Keep everyone together until you get back to Hwy 3 at 190th Street, and then anything goes to the end.

Ride Saturday, April 17

It’s going to be a little colder Saturday morning, so we’ll start our ride a little later, at 09:00. During the ride, we should have mostly cloudy skies with temps from 43 to 51 degrees and north winds at 5 to 8 mph.

A handful of you rode to Saint Paul last Saturday and we’ll repeat that this week, but in the opposite direction. This shorter route will be good for the later start and its elevation changes will give us a good workout. I’m still working to get my strength back after my nasty cold, so a shorter route may be all that I can do this week.
