Ride Saturday, May 28

Saturday’s ride will be to Northfield, and our first trip there this season. We’ll start at 13:00 and head east to Coates before heading south to Hampton and Northfield. There will be a stop at Brick Oven Bakery before heading back via Farmington. There’s a 50% chance of rain in the morning, so we’re starting after lunch.

In the afternoon, it should be partly cloudy with temps in the upper 70s and a south wind at 16 to 20 mph.

Ride Saturday, May 21

In case you haven’t noticed, Black Dog Trail has been flooded near I-35W since Sunday. The river bottoms and many roads and trails near the Minnesota River are now under water. The national weather service says the water is expected to rise above flood stage Thursday evening to a crest of 702.5 feet early Sunday afternoon. The last time the river was that high was 1985.

Flooding and construction limit our options for a northerly ride this week, so I’ve modified our Minneapolis route to cross the Minnesota River at I-494, rather than the Mendota Bridge, which is closed for construction through June. This alternate Midtown Greenway loop includes a rest stop at Sebastian Joe’s Ice Cream Shop near Lake Harriet and a short stop at Grand Performance, our club’s bike shop. Expect more trails, stops, and therefore more time for this ride than most of our rides. The weather during the ride is expected to be cloudy with temps from 47 to 50 degrees and NNW winds at 9 mph.

Ride Saturday, May 7

Finally, our weather has changed for the better here in Minnesota! So, this week, we’re going to be leaving Rosemount at 08:00 and riding east to Hastings and on to Revenna Trail. This 54-mile route is a little longer than our earlier rides this season, and we’ll keep everyone together so that everyone has a good time and doesn’t get dropped — at least until we get to Coates.

Ride Sunday, April 24

This weekend’s ride will be Sunday morning at 08:00, because it’s supposed to rain all day Saturday and it will be warm Sunday morning. The route will be to Prior Lake via Black Dog Lake counterclockwise. It will be windy from the WSW and this route should give folks shelter from the wind through much of the first half of the ride, and a tail wind from Prior Lake. During the ride, it should be about 48 degrees with partly sunny skies and 14 to 19 mph winds. If you’re feeling strong, go to the front and pull the group at a pace that everyone can maintain.

It may not look like it outside now, but we will do another outdoor ride Saturday. It will be windy from the northwest Saturday afternoon, so I’ve shortened our normal Bloomington loop a few miles and we’ll do that loop clockwise. The ride will leave Starbucks in Rosemount at 1:00 pm. During the ride, it should be about 47 degrees with mostly sunny skies and WNW winds at 10 to 14 mph.

Our kit order has arrived. You may pick up your order before or after our rides.

Ride Saturday, November 6

Will this be our last outdoor ride for the season? Who knows what the weather has in store for us beyond next week? It’s going to be noticeably colder next weekend, so we may do a Zwift ride instead of a cold and windy outdoor ride. We’ll continue to schedule outdoor rides when the feels-like temps are above 40 and the roads are dry.

This week, we will ride outdoors at 09:00. During the ride, it will be sunny with temps from 46 to 57 degrees, and SSW winds from 6 to 8 mph. We’ll follow our Prior Lake via Black Dog Lake route counterclockwise. This 48-mile ride will stop in Prior Lake before the 20-mile return to Rosemount.
